Finnish black metallers True Black Dawn, is a band whose history begins back in 1992, with the first album “Blood for Satan” coming in 2001. The second one “Come the Colorless Dawn” in 2016 and 2024 announced their third full-length album, “Of Thick-Circling Shadows” which is expected to be released on July 30 by the World Terror Committee.
Their highly anticipated album “Of Thick-Circling Shadows” shows the band known for their extreme and dark sound not to disappoint, offering a work that exudes atmosphere and brutality.
The album opens with the track “Algol”, which sets the tone with cold guitars and explosive drums. True Black Dawn manage to create an intense atmosphere that captivates you from the first moment. The production is rough and raw, as befits a black metal album, but manages to highlight every detail of the compositions.
The influences from the Norwegian black metal scene are evident, with the dark and melancholic riffs reminiscent of classic works by Mayhem and Darkthrone.
However, True Black Dawn add their own touch, incorporating elements from the Finnish school, with more melody and atmosphere.
The performances are excellent, with the band members showing their technical skill.
The vocals are raw and violent, with the singer rendering the lyrics with passion and hatred. The lyrics deal with themes such as death, darkness and ancient sorceries, adding another layer to the already charged atmosphere.
The tracks “The Depths of the Looking Glass”, “Night and Names” and “Worlds in the Mirror” stand out in particular, with each offering something unique to the listener.
True Black Dawn’s ability to alternate between fast, aggressive sections and slow, atmospheric breaks shows their variety and maturity as composers.
