March 1984 (39 years ago) and the single “Love at First Sting” is released. It couldn’t be more unique, with anthems that even today fill stadiums and are heard on all radio stations. The great Uli Jon Roth chapter, for the band and for its fans, has ceased to exist almost six years ago (1973-1978), due to his departure from the band. Uli Jon Roth’s place has been taken by Matthias Jabs. With a different way of playing and a completely different personality. Despite this the Scorpions released colossal albums, Lovedrive(1979), Animal Magnetism(1980) and Blackout(1982).
We arrive in 1983 where the recordings of “Love at First Sting” begin at Dierks Studios in Stommeln, West Germany.
Notably, Love at First Sting was one of the first digitally recorded hard rock/heavy metal records ever released.
It became the band’s most successful album in the US, reaching number 6 on the Billboard 200 chart in 1984, and went double platinum by the end of the year, reaching triple platinum in 1995.
The song “Rock You Like a Hurricane” peaked at number 25 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart that same year.
“Still Loving You” reached number 64 on the same chart, number 14 in Germany, and number 3 on the French and Swiss singles charts.
Unsurpassed tracks are also, “Bad Boys Running Wild”, “Coming Home” and “Big City Nights”.
All lyrics are written by Klaus Meine except for, “Bad Boys Running Wild” and “Rock You Like a Hurricane” featuring the band’s drummer Herman Rarebell.
All music on the album is written by Rudolf Schenker.
