MAGUS a comprehensive interview on metalwar.gr

We have the pleasure of hosting even an interview with Magus, a historical person of the domestic scene and beyond.

We thank him for his answers and we hope that those of you who read it will find it interesting.

1) Good evening Magus and congratulations on a truly excellent album!
Magus: Thank you very much. We worked quite a bit with vision and consistency and I believe one came outcomplex and powerful effect.

2) What does it mean for you after the end (although I don’t like the term) of Necromantia, to you are releasing an album with your personal style!
Magus: THE MAGUS are a full band. When I decided, rather when the situations led me at the end of NECROMANTIA, for a while I didn’t want to do anything musically. But sometimes the inner need to create exceeds reality and thus THE MAGUS was created. From this unquenchable thirst…

3) What is the reaction of the world so far for the album in Greece and the rest people;
Magus: The album comes out tomorrow so it’s probably hard to tell you about people’s reaction. In terms of the music press so far the reception of the album has been excellent. A fact that I did not expect because, it is a difficult and special album. Like everything I do, of course….I never liked easy paths

4) What does Vissodomontas mean to you and why did you choose an essentially unknown word?
Magus: You’re right about the unknown. I didn’t know it either, I heard it by accident somewhere, it piqued my interest and I searched about. When I learned what it meant,  it fit like a glove with it vision I had for the record in my head.

5) Do you think that everyone who listens to the album will feel what you wanted to go through while writing it?
Magus: I’ve always written music for a few….we said it’s a difficult album. Those who understand it. Everything is not for everyone. Art is not bread that everyone can eat. It is something special that appeals to the deepest self and connects with some. With others just not…

6) Is Vyssodomon an opening to the future or a summary of the past?
Magus: An awareness and visualization of the now.

7) What does hell, heaven, Demon, Satan and God mean to you? And with what of all man can come closer to these.
Magus: You get into deep conversations that will take months just to touch on,
that’s all. Let it suffice that I regard Lucifer as the real benefactor of mankind,
which humanity betrayed him……

8) What do life, death mean to you and what do you think exists after them?
Magus: Heavy questions for a metal publication. For most death is the end on all levels, for some others not……and some others escape it….

9) Which collaboration or participation have you done, musically, that has left you with the best slogans?
Magus: The best one is the one I haven’t done yet……. However, one of the most important moments was my acquaintance and collaboration with Giorgos Emmanouil of LUCIFER’S CHILD. Excellent musician and person.

10) What is black metal for you and if it is a way of life.
Magus: Way of life, no I wouldn’t say that, no. But it is a very special kind of music that characterized by a certain ideology and core of thought which give it and
his identity. In today’s era, many people describe their music as Black metal without serving its purpose, just putting some blast, make up and singing about…butterflies. Sorry guys this is not Black Metal. It may indeed be worthy and excellent but not Black Metal. I don’t really understand why everyone wants to get on the Black Metal chariot…..

11) What are the three most cult things in black metal and the three most cult things in
heavy metal in general?
Magus:    4: VENOM, CELTIC FROST, BATHORY, MERCIFUL FATE. In both

12) How do you see society changing during your lifetime, which era do you prefer, and if you could change anything what would it be?
Magus: I would eradicate stupidity. But I should probably lobotomize the majority of humanity.
I wish I had lived in the Renaissance

13) As a country we have many notable bands. But the scene is not supported as it should be had to in order to take off. Also, many bands are living economically. What do you think that should be done to grow the domestic scene?
Magus: There is no longer a community, like in our time. So it is also absent
mutual aid as before. Everything works through screens. Virtually. Lots of bands.
More than before. Good ones? Big percentage. Very good; Few. Concerning the
financial, don’t forget that you are talking to someone who did not choose music as a profession. To be able to do whatever I want whenever I want. As for new bands trying to live by music: I’ll agree with my friend Nergal from BEHEMOTH:
Don’t do it. It is very difficult. 1 in 1000. Play music to like, yes express yourself, create. On the other hand, don’t stop dreaming!

14) Why your aversion to live shows?
Magus: Basically for Black Metal live. I consider Black Metal to be a music that is experienced in its solitude yourself. It is experienced, not just heard. It has happened many times to see bands, which I like them and I keep buying their material, but I get incredibly bored at their concert. On the other hand I can have fun and drink my beers at a Thrash metal live…

15) What plans are there for the future?
Magus: At the moment we are preparing a cover of “Fire” by Arthur Brown which we have blown away!

16) In closing, I would like to thank you warmly for your time and let’s close this interview in any way you want.
Magus: Seek to find good music wherever it is.
