Ten years ago today, May 2,2013 today, Jeff Hanneman passed away suddenly from cirrhosis of the liver at the age of 49.
His loss, as these ten years proved, remained enormous and he himself irreplaceable.
After all, he could not be replaced who is responsible for the “fire” that “lit” in Slayer’s arsenal by writing-composing, the greater percentage of what Slayer presented to us since their creation in 1981.
And although he always kept a low profile, everyone knew what Jeff Hanneman means to Slayer, thrash, heavy metal and by extension to the whole music.
In his statement he said that Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith and Jeff Beck, who he grew up listening to, made him become a guitarist.
Some of his exclusively own compositions are the following:
“Die by the Sword”, “Tormentor”, “At Dawn They Sleep”, “Necrophiliac”, “Angel of Death”, “Raining Blood”, “South of Heaven”, “Live Undead”, “Read Between the Lies” , “War Ensemble”, “Spirit in Black”, “Dead Skin Mask”, “213”, “Bitter Peace”, “Disciple”, “Jihad”, “World Painted Blood”.
May he rest in peace and will surely be our companion through his immense work.
