CELTIC FROST – “Monotheist” 17 years since the last album

Seventeen years since the last release of the emperors and 15 years since the breakup of the band, Celtic Frost have at least left us with an excellent album.
Sixteen years since Vanity/Nemesis in 1990, the Swiss blacken our souls with one of the heaviest and darkest albums not only of the band but also in general.
“Monotheist” doesn’t rank anywhere, in any category, nor does Celtic Frost.
It is a charge unto itself, written for one purpose only, to plunge us into the darkest side of our souls and keep us mired in rot.
It’s an album that scares and chills, and anyone who thought it was tough and would just listen to it, quickly reconsiders.
In just over an hour we will witness an atrocity which will haunt us forever.
One of the darker tracks is “A Dying God Coming Into Human Flesh”. “Progeny”, “Ground” and all the rest contribute to our most terrifying emotions.
The guitars suffer and the speeds are anything but slow.
“Monotheist” is an album that has never been rewritten nor will it be.
